Taking what belongs to you

TAKING WHAT BELONGS TO YOU

Do you know what belongs to you? If your answer is yes, then you are in the right post.

Taking what belongs to you

This requires you to take some steps.

Reading through the first chapter of Joshua, After the death of Moses, God spoke to Joshua and told him to get ready to cross the river Jordan with the Israelites, He was about to give them a land. Reading the NIV version of Joshua 1verse 3-6

3) I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.

4) Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.

5) No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

6) Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

As I earlier said in previous write-ups, there is a part for you to play in order to commit God to play His part. Verse 6 of this scripture shows us what Joshua and the Israelites had to do to get verses 3, 4 and 5 which is to be strong and courageous.

Bible verse continued

Some may say this does not concern me, it’s the old testament. Remember that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. God is the ancient of days and He never changes. Jesus speaking in Mark 13:37; “What I say to you, I say to everyone; Watch! So if we want the promises of God in vs 3, 4 and 5, we have to be courageous but that’s not all, continuing from the book of Joshua 1 vs 7-9

7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.

8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

We can see the remaining criteria which include; Obeying the law Moses gave you and remember I said earlier that the law was summed up into 2 when Jesus came i.e, Love God first, then your neighbour as yourself.

The third is to keep meditating on the Word of God, keep speaking the Word of God, and also do whatever the Word of God says you should do. It is until you’ve done these that you can become prosperous.

Finally, don’t be afraid or discouraged even though it does not look like it now, be patient, in the end, it shall speak (Habakkuk 2: 3).

Take steps

Another thing I noticed about this Scripture is in verse 11. Joshua made a move, he did something about it not just sitting down and waiting for God to do everything.

We have to make moves for everything God has laid on our hearts to do. There is no crime in asking God for what to do, what step to take, which direction to go, all we have to do is to be willing. There is no stupid question with God.

To see things working in your life you need to take steps, God is the constant factor while we are the variable. He is always right. Whenever things are not working well in our lives, we should check what we are doing wrong instead of blaming God and you’ll be shocked to see how things would return to normal like they were never there.

Beware of the enemy

It is also important to know that for every door God opens for us, the devil is always there to contend with it. 1 Corinthians 16: 9 (KJV) says;

For a great and effective door is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

Deuteronomy 2: 24 also says;

“Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge. See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle

In that case, what are we to do? Go to war. Well, I don’t mean bow and arrow or guns, as Christians, our weapons are not carnal/ physical at all, which is very interesting. I tell people, be mindful of who you wrong because some have these complete gadgets, even though they look weak outside, they can’t be matched inside.

There are some groups of people that don’t even need to pray to God about the wrong that was done to them. God takes over their battle without them asking. Everyone should look forward to being in this category. Now, what are these Weapons? The weapons are the armour of God which can be seen in

Ephesians 6: 13-16 (KJV);

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

okay, it’s all there. Remember what the Bible says about the word of God in Hebrews 4: 12,

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Surgeon’s scalpel is sharp but definitely cannot separate the soul and the spirit neither can it discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.

There are verses of scriptures that are for different situations, our job is to locate these verses, use them against the devil reminding God of His promises, and also taking along with us the shield of faith to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy.

The need for fasting

There are sometimes we may need to fast in addition to prayer.

Isaiah 58: 6 says

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Jesus speaking to his disciples in Matthew 17: 21 said, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” Fasting causes us to be more sensitive to the things of the spirit and during this period when we study the Word of God, there is an outbreak of revelation, and every barrier on our path is cleared off.

I hope you’ve been able to gain one or two things from this post on taking what belongs to you. Remember to be a doer of the word and not just a hearer. you can connect with me on Facebook.
