The Soul of Man

The Soul of Man

The soul of man is made up of the intellect, feelings/emotions, and the mind. The soul is between the spirit and the body of man. This is the area where ideas are gotten and developed. The mind is very powerful even though it may not seem so when compared with the spirit and body. This part can make one end up either in heaven or hell.

The Word of God says we should guard our hearts with all diligence, from out of it flows the spring of life (Proverbs 4:23). The heart in this context refers to the point between the physical and spiritual being that represents the center part related to feeling rather than the head (Cooper).

The devil does not have access to our spirit but he does with the soul/mind through the introduction of evil ideas.  Before an evil event can take place, it must have been conceived first as an idea. Both believers and unbelievers have a series of unproductive thoughts crossing the mind either from us or the devil. What one does with such thoughts determines if he/she will be a captive of the devil or an overcomer. The mind is very powerful and it’s important that we guard it.

Guarding your mind

Godly thoughts that will enable one receive favour from God are also conceived in the mind. When one believes in his “heart” that it is possible to be healed, the miracle of healing is realized. Romans 12: 9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”.

The right heart is also synonymous with believe. People who receive diverse miracles and breakthroughs from God, have the right heart. For one’s prayer to be answered, the right heart is required.

On the other hand, depression, addictions, all forms of sickness and disease have their source in the soul/mind/ heart. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart doeth good like medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones”.

Before one gets addicted to something, he/she would already have had the thought and then get trapped. Sometimes the devil introduces these ideas to believers but it’s our responsibility to cast down evil imaginations 2 Corinthians 10: 5). It is inevitable that ungodly thoughts will come but how well it is handled determines if we are truly children of God.

Just like we feed the spirit through the Word of God, the soul should also be fed by the Word of God. James 1: 21 says, “ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls

The more of God’s Word we have, the more our soul will be cleansed.
